Canine Influenza is in Fresno
As of March 30th, 2018, there have been 51 canines in Fresno that tested positive for Canine Influenza Virus (CIV). If you take your dog boarding, to the groomer, to a play group, doggie daycare or to the dog park, we wanted to inform you that your dog is at a higher risk of being exposed and we would recommend you vaccinate your dog for the Canine Influenza Virus. It is a series of two vaccines. Once the first vaccine is given, it will need to be boostered in 3 weeks. After the second vaccine is given, it will be another 14 days until your dog has built up enough antibodies to be protected. If you are planning to board your pet and wish to vaccinate them, please plan to start the series at least 5 weeks before your trip.
Symptoms of canine influenza include coughing, sneezing, runny nose or eyes, lethargy, loss of appetite and fever. If your dog is experiencing any of these symptoms we recommend you contact your veterinarian.
The vaccine we carry protects against both H3N2 & H3N8 strains. If you wish to set up an appointment to have your dog vaccinated, please give us a call at 559-432-1200.
